Dru’s extensive experience in post-secondary leadership gives you a unique advantage.
As a coach and leader, Dru Marshall, PhD, has held significant roles in high-performance sport and post-secondary education. Dru is a nationally recognized academic leader with over 30 years post-secondary sector experience, including a ten-year stint as Provost and Vice President at the University of Calgary. In addition to her academic career, Dru also had a significant career in high performance sport, coaching both the junior and senior Canadian women’s national field hockey teams. As a result of these experiences, Dru has a well-deserved reputation as a strong team leader, team builder, and mentor.
Dru has been recognized as one of Canada’s WXN Top 100 most powerful women and as one of the most influential women in sport and physical activity in Canada by the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women in Sport and Physical Activity. For her work in high performance sport in Canada, she was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. Dru credits her coaching experience for helping shape her unique executive leadership style.
In recognition of her role in educating people, Dru was given the name—Chickadee Song Woman—by Piikani Elder Reg Crowshoe. In the Blackfoot/Piikani culture, chickadees represent a learning society. To celebrate an accomplishment, a female chickadee gave the society a song to document an individual’s achievement. As a nod to this significant honour, Dru chose the inclusion of a chickadee in her branding.
